The Spanish Association of Physiotherapists (AEF), founded in 1969, has played a fundamental role in developing and recognising physiotherapy in Spain. Before establishing the Regional Colleges of Physiotherapists, the AEF managed all organisational, labor, advocacy, cultural, academic, and scientific professional actions.

Our Mission and Objectives

The AEF is committed to advancing physiotherapy in Spain through the following key objectives:

  • Professional unity: Strengthening cohesion among Spanish physiotherapists.

  • International integration: Actively participating in national and international physiotherapy organisations.

  • Continuous education: Promoting lifelong learning and specialised training for its members.

  • Professional advocacy: Protecting and defending the interests of physiotherapists.

  • Academic promotion: Encouraging the advancement of university-level physiotherapy studies.

  • Scientific development: Fostering research and innovation to advance evidence-based physiotherapy practice.

Additionally, the AEF fosters strong professional relationships among its members, encouraging research, education, and dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge. It also represents its members before public administrations and collaborates with organisations that contribute to the growth and recognition of the profession.

Our Structure and Specialties

The AEF is organised into specialised societies that cover various physiotherapy fields, including primary care and community health, cardiology, sports and physical activity, higher education, animal physiotherapy, ergonomics, geriatrics, neurology, oncology, women's and pelvic health, mental health, physiotherapy ultrasound, and manual therapies. This organisation promotes the integration of specialised knowledge to advance in clinical practice and supports innovation and excellence in physiotherapy services.

With over 50 years of history, the AEF remains a key pillar in promoting and developing physiotherapy in Spain. It continuously evolves to meet the profession's new challenges and societal needs.
